Riverside High School (Formerly Andrew Jackson High School)

DESCRIPTION

Built in 1927, AJHS is the oldest fully accredited high school in Duval County. When Duval County Schools were being evaluated in the early 1990s, Andrew Jackson High School was on the verge of losing accreditation due to roof leaks, cracks, and window damage, which led to the restoration project. Interior renovations were made to all classrooms, the media center, cafeteria, auditorium, administrative areas, athletic facilities and weight room. Exterior improvements included new parking areas, ADA accessibility improvements, drivers’ education range, and track and field additions. PQH continued its work at Riverside High School in 1993 by designing a second renovation phase for the school’s Health Magnet program. For this project, existing vocational shops were rehabilitated to become medical classrooms, labs, and “hospital” simulation training rooms.
