The Architectural Restoration of this historic 1891 courthouse was completed in the Summer of 2003. The renovation included the removal of 20 feet of an existing 1950’s annex to allow the original courthouse to regain its prominence on Centre Street in downtown Fernandina Beach.
Interior improvements allowed the old courtroom to be reestablished and restored along with office spaces for Judicial and Court functions. New spaces were allocated to meet the needs of the Clerk of the Courts, and Tax Collectors offices. Upgrades to meet ADA requirements included the installation of an elevator.
Different material pallets were used in order to distinguish the 2 period styles of Architecture (1891 and 1950). Other improvements included a new roof, new entrance finishes, plumbing, mechanical and electrical system upgrades. A unique feature of this project was the installation of a new replica of the original clock tower.
