Built in 1925, The Carling Hotel was bought by the Roosevelt Hotel chain in 1936 to make it their flagship location in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1963, the hotel sustained a major fire that gutted many portions of the hotel including its majestic grand lobby. After being partially repaired, the hotel remained in operation until 1968 when it closed its doors for good. The building later reopened as the Jacksonville Regency Retirement Community and remained opened and operational until 1987. After that, the structure remained unoccupied and in despair. Today, this 15-story building holds 126 loft apartments, 15,000 square feet of commercial space, a 250-space parking garage and community amenities including a club room, fitness center and activity lounges. A key element for the success of this project was the complete renovation of its lobby and other common areas in the two lower levels for housing community amenities along with commercial, office, and, retail spaces. The structure was renamed the Carling in honor of its original name.
