FSCJ North Campus Dental Hygiene School
Modernized dental training facility advancing hands-on learning and healthcare education.
A 23,650 square-foot renovation that consolidates and modernizes the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant Programs, creating a state-of-the-art learning environment with 27 operatories, teaching labs, and a fully functional sterilization lab.
Project Overview
Located at Florida State College at Jacksonville North Campus, the $1.8 million Dental Hygiene School represents the first phase of a multi-campus modernization effort. This facility replaced outdated infrastructure with a contemporary environment aligned with current dental education and patient care standards.
The project relocates the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant Programs into a single, purpose-built space that supports direct patient treatment, simulation-based learning, and clinical instruction.
Design Approach
The design emphasizes real-world application, spatial efficiency, and technical precision. The facility includes 27 dental operatories arranged in open and semi-private layouts that mirror clinical workflows, providing students with realistic practice environments. Classrooms, offices, and sterilization areas are seamlessly integrated to support both instruction and patient care.
Natural light, durable surfaces, and ergonomic workstations were incorporated to enhance comfort and concentration. Similar to the Cardiovascular Technology Unit, the design strategy prioritizes the student experience by replicating authentic healthcare settings where hands-on learning transitions smoothly into professional practice.
Program Highlights:
- 27 fully equipped dental operatories supporting live patient training
- Teaching and simulation labs designed for group instruction and practical skill development
- Functional sterilization lab meeting current dental care standards
- Administrative and support spaces integrated for faculty accessibility and program efficiency
Impact
The North Campus Dental Hygiene School strengthens FSCJ leadership in allied health education. Through its combination of patient-centered design and instructional innovation, PQH Group Design created a facility that enhances student training, supports community dental outreach, and aligns the college’s programs with industry expectations for future-ready healthcare professionals.
