UNF Athletics Training Facility
Supporting performance, preparation, and athlete development at UNF.
A conceptual 20,150-square-foot athletics facility designed to enhance training, recovery, and team operations for UNF’s basketball and volleyball programs.
Project Overview
Located in Jacksonville, Florida, this 20,150-square-foot, $9.07 million concept expands the University of North Florida’s commitment to high-performance athletics. Positioned adjacent to the existing UNF Arena, the facility is envisioned as a dedicated hub for year-round training for men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
Design Approach
Drawing from UNF’s competitive identity, PQH Group Design approached the facility as both a performance tool and a unifying environment for student-athletes. Rather than replicating existing layouts, the concept introduces a purpose-built training environment centered on movement, motivation, and well-being.
Key design drivers include:
- Strategic zoning separating training, team, and support areas
- Branded architectural moments using lighting, graphics, and color
- Daylit circulation supporting focus, recovery, and well-being
- Durable, high-performance materials suited for continuous athletic use
- Aligned massing reinforcing a unified athletics district
The design establishes a modern, energizing, and athlete-centered atmosphere from entry to exit.
Impact
As a concept, the UNF Athletics Training Facility outlines a forward-looking vision for strengthening the university’s athletics program. By uniting preparation, performance, and identity in one place, it supports student-athletes physically, mentally, and culturally, enhancing their daily experience on and off the court.
