Jacksonville Classical Academy • Forest Street K-12 Campus & Gymnasium
A unified campus designed to foster excellence, learning, and community interaction.
A 112,000-square-foot educational campus combining an 88,000-square-foot K–12 school and a 24,000-square-foot gymnasium, designed to create an inspiring, enduring environment for classical education in downtown Jacksonville.
Project Overview
The Forest Street Campus for Jacksonville Classical Academy embodies a holistic approach to learning, where academic excellence, physical activity, and community engagement coexist in one cohesive environment.
Completed in two phases, the $18.1 million, two-story, 88,000-square-foot main building, completed in 2020, serves grades K–12 with dedicated classrooms for science, art, and music. Phase 2, a 24,000-square-foot gymnasium completed in 2025, expands the school’s mission through new athletic and performance facilities that enrich daily campus life.
Design Approach
Designed by PQH Group Design, the campus reflects the academy’s classical education model and supports its high standards for excellence and long-term community impact.
The design emphasizes natural light, clear circulation, and flexible layouts to support varied teaching styles. A two-story atrium and multipurpose space foster visibility and connection between grade levels.
The main building includes:
- 58 classrooms for up to 1,200 students
- Two-story multipurpose cafeteria with stage and warming kitchen
- Administrative offices and shared student support spaces
- Outdoor activity areas and dedicated drop-off loops
The gymnasium features:
- Full-size basketball and volleyball courts with dual practice layouts
- Performance stage for assemblies and events
- Fitness room, locker rooms, and support areas
- Second-story VIP observation deck and balcony overlooking indoor and outdoor fields
- Seating for 1,200 spectators, supporting both school and community use
Impact
Together, the Forest Street Campus and Gym set a new benchmark for Charter School K–12 education design in Jacksonville, Florida integrating academics, athletics, and the arts into a unified learning environment that fosters engagement, wellness, and civic pride.
