ROTC Recruitment & Training Center
A foundation for future military leaders
A concept design for a new ROTC Recruitment & Training Center at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, envisioned as a landmark of strength, precision, and leadership for the next generation of military officers.
Project Overview
Developed as a conceptual study for a two-story, 27,436 square-foot, $15 million facility at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, the ROTC Recruitment & Training Center unites the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps programs under one roof, bringing together academic learning, tactical training, and leadership development.
Prominently located along Clyde Morris Boulevard, the concept was envisioned as both a functional facility and a symbolic gateway to campus, fostering collaboration and identity across all service branches.
Design Approach
Designed by PQH Group Design, the concept merges symbolism and strategy, using architectural form, structure, and materiality to express a cadet’s transformation into an officer.
- Vessel-like massing projecting motion and discipline.
- Defined spatial hierarchy balancing shared and specialized zones.
- Simulation and fitness facilities supporting readiness and collaboration.
- Bridge connection linking to the existing ROTC building and creating a covered entry below.
- Outdoor monument plaza honoring all U.S. military branches and reinforcing continuity and honor.
Material selection reinforces the narrative of unity and purpose:
- Glass symbolizes transparency and innovation for the Air Force.
- Steel cladding conveys precision and adaptability for the Navy.
- Reinforced concrete represents stability and protection for the Army.
Together, these materials create a cohesive architectural language that celebrates the synergy of land, sea, and air operations.
Impact
Though conceptual, the ROTC Recruitment & Training Center stands as a study in purpose-driven architecture, illustrating how design can embody leadership, service, and unity. It transforms institutional values into a physical form that conveys strength, clarity, and honor, setting a precedent for future military education environments.
