Wreckers Cay Apartments

A coastal multifamily community redefining modern living in the Florida Keys.

A 260,000-square-foot waterfront development offering 280 residences designed for coastal resilience, accessibility, and an active island lifestyle.

Project Overview

Built on Stock Island just north of Key West, Wreckers Cay Apartments transforms a former boat-repair shipyard into a vibrant residential neighborhood. Designed by PQH Group Design, the $44.8 million, 260,000-square-foot development is the largest multifamily housing project built in the Florida Keys in more than three decades.

The community offers a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments supported by amenities that reflect everyday island living; balancing comfort, durability, and connection to the water.

Design Approach

All residential structures are elevated above grade to meet flood guidelines while integrating parking and circulation below. This elevated configuration not only safeguards against coastal conditions but also maximizes waterfront views and natural ventilation across the site.

Organized across three-story buildings, Wreckers Cay includes:

  • 280 residential units in multiple layouts
  • First-level parking garages for residents
  • Clubhouse, pool cabana, and fitness center
  • Leasing office and resident amenities that serves as a neighborhood hub

Material selections and architectural detailing respond to the subtropical climate, light façades, deep overhangs, and shaded walkways that reduce heat gain while maintaining a relaxed coastal character.

Impact

Wreckers Cay Apartments expands housing opportunities in Key West with a modern, resilient community that supports the region’s workforce and families. By redeveloping a former industrial site into livable coastal housing, the project strengthens the island’s residential fabric and contributes long-term social and economic value to the Florida Keys.
