St. Johns County Fire Stations
Built on a shared prototype, refined through local context.
For more than a decade, PQH Group Design has partnered with St. Johns County to deliver fire stations that combine operational efficiency with lasting civic value. Each station adapts a common prototype to meet the needs of its site, community, and first responders.
Project Overview
As St. Johns County expanded its emergency response network, PQH Group Design developed a flexible prototype for new fire stations that balance functionality, durability, and civic identity. Each facility is tailored to its site and operational needs while maintaining a consistent architectural language across the county. Buildings range between 6,000–8,400 square feet, calibrated to support the specific demands of each location.
Design Approach
The design focuses on clarity, resilience, and comfort for first responders.
- Two- to three-bay apparatus layouts aligned with each station’s capacity.
- Direct circulation paths ensuring quick transitions from living to response zones.
- Concrete and metal materials for strength and minimal upkeep.
- Natural light and ventilation supporting visibility and well-being.
- Streamlined structural systems for adaptable, cost-conscious construction.
Impact
Together, these stations create a reliable, recognizable network for St. Johns County’s emergency services. Their thoughtful design strengthens readiness, reduces long-term maintenance costs, and provides durable spaces that reflect the communities they protect.
